What’s included in your financial plan
Whether you’re just starting out or already enjoying retirement, financial planning helps you make more of your money at every stage of life. Your plan will help you answer practical questions.
Insight financial advice helps answer your questions.
How much should you save? What can you afford to spend now? When could you retire? How can you provide for the people you love? We’ll look at your finances, what you want to achieve and how you feel about risk.
Income changes, children grow up, retirement gets closer and priorities shift. Whatever happens, we’ll review your plan with you regularly, show you what it means for your finances and recommend any changes.
Retirement planning.
You may have pensions from previous jobs, a workplace pension, a private pension, or no pension in place yet.
Whatever your starting point, it’s worth understanding what your pensions, savings, investments and income could provide in retirement. Starting earlier gives you more time to make changes, but if retirement is getting closer, there may still be plenty you can do.
Your adviser will review what you already have, how much you’re contributing and what your current approach could provide you with when you retire. We can then use cashflow modelling to show what happens if you save more, work for longer, retire earlier or change how much you plan to spend.
That helps you plan for the retirement you always wanted, and shows how much you can afford to enjoy now.
When you’re ready to take money from your pensions, we’ll explain the options available, including drawdown and annuities, and what each could mean for your income and tax.
If you’re self-employed, you won’t have automatic enrollment through an employer, but we can help you decide how you want to save for retirement.
(A pension is a long-term investment, and you can’t usually access your money until age 55 (rising to 57 from April 2028, unless you have a protected pension age). The value of your pension investments can go down as well as up. This affects the value of your pension and the benefits available to you. Interest rates at the time you take your pension benefits can also affect your income. The tax you pay on pension withdrawals depends on your individual circumstances and the tax rules in force at the time. These rules can change. We’ll help you understand your options at retirement and make informed decisions about how to take your pension benefits.)
Estate and inheritance planning.
Many milestones in your life will give you a reason to review your estate planning.
Buying a home, having children, building up savings and investments or running a business can all be good reasons to put a plan in place.
Having a plan lets you choose what should happen to your money and property, and who should be able to act for you if needed. Your plan may include financial gifts during your lifetime, inheritance tax planning, wills, trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
Your financial adviser can invite specialists from across the Insight Group to advise you on wills, inheritance tax, lasting Powers of Attorney, trusts and long-term care fee planning.
Cashflow planning.
Cashflow modelling shows how changes in your income, spending, savings, investments, pensions, property and debts could affect your finances over time.
That lets us show you what different options might mean in practice. Could you retire earlier? Work less? Help your children? Spend more now? Travel more?
It can also show how your finances may support the life you want in the years ahead, and give you more clarity about what to save, what to spend and what to prioritise.
Can't recommend Bardhe enough!
Was so impressed with my experience! I was greeted professionally and offered a drink on arrival and then taken to a private room for my meeting. I have never seen a financial adviser before and I had an initial meeting with Bardhe.
I met Bardhe for the first time at the “She Means Business Event”, a women in business networking event, hosted and run at Insight.
Investment management.
We’ll look at when you expect to need the money, what you want it to do and how much investment risk you’re willing and able to accept.
We provide independent investment advice on ISAs, pensions, investment bonds, investment trusts, unit trusts, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), Enterprise Investment Schemes (EIS) and Venture Capital Trusts (VCTs).
We’ll review what you currently have, see how your investments are working and recommend changes where needed.
If you’re new to investing, we’ll explain all your options and help you get started.
(Enterprise Investment Schemes (EIS) and Venture Capital Trusts (VCTs) are high-risk investments. You should only invest if you’re prepared to lose all the money you invest. You’re unlikely to be protected if something goes wrong. Please note that AIM-listed shares are high risk and can fluctuate widely in value. The tax treatment of investments depends on your individual circumstances and may change in the future. You should seek financial advice to understand the risks and tax implications before investing.)
Insurance and protection.
We’ll look at how you and the people you love would manage financially if you couldn’t work, became seriously ill or died.
We’ll start by reviewing any protection insurance you already have, work out what financial support would be needed and recommend cover to fill any gaps.
Life insurance
Provides financial support for your loved ones if you die during an agreed period, helping with everyday costs and future commitments.
Whole of life insurance
Provides lifelong cover, with a payout when you die, provided the required premiums are maintained.
Critical illness cover
Pays a lump sum if you’re diagnosed with a specified serious illness.
Health insurance
Helps pay for private medical treatment, giving you more choice over when and where you receive care.
Mortgages.
Our specialist mortgage advisers cover residential, lifetime (equity release), buy-to-let and commercial mortgages, alongside related insurance.
How much you borrow, what you pay each month and how long you borrow for can all affect how much you have available to enjoy your lifestyle today, invest and save for retirement.
Your financial planner will talk you through that, working closely with your Insight mortgage adviser to help you choose a mortgage that works with the rest of your financial plan.
(Mortgage risks – your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. Lifetime mortgages and equity release – this is a lifetime mortgage (home reversion scheme). To understand the features and risks, ask for a personalised illustration. Buy-to-let mortgages – the Financial Conduct Authority does not regulate some forms of buy-to-let. Commercial mortgages – the Financial Conduct Authority does not regulate some forms of commercial mortgage.)
