Who we help

Living in retirement

Retirement is what you’ve spent years working towards. It’s time to enjoy the life you’ve planned for, whether that means holidays, days out with friends or simply having more freedom to spend your time as you choose.

Our number one insight?
Plan your withdrawals.

Your income could now come from several different sources. So how much can you afford to spend? Where should the money come from? And how do you make sure it lasts? A good retirement income plan gives you those answers, so you can enjoy what you’ve built without wondering whether you’re spending too much.

Your pensions, savings and investments have different rules for taking money out. Where you draw from, and in what order, affects the tax you pay, the income you receive and what you have left for later.

Making my pension work harder for me.

I’ve been an Insight client for many years, so when I started thinking more seriously about retirement, it felt natural to revisit my plans with my adviser. Although I had built up a number of pensions over the years, I hadn’t realised they might not all be working together as well as they could.

Following a review, my adviser took the time to understand my goals, my attitude to risk and what I wanted retirement to look like. We then agreed a clearer strategy for my pensions, aligned to my long-term objectives.

What stood out to me was that it wasn’t just about where my pension was held. My adviser helped me understand how my retirement plan could support the life I wanted, giving my pension a clearer purpose and helping me feel more in control.

Since making those changes, my pension has performed far better than I expected, giving me greater confidence in my financial future. In fact, the improved outcome meant I was able to achieve something I’d always wanted and purchase my dream car after retiring.

The advice I received gave me more than a pension strategy. It gave me peace of mind, a clearer retirement plan and the confidence to enjoy the next chapter of my life.

The support and advice I’ve received from Insight over the years has been invaluable. Having a plan in place that truly reflects my goals has made all the difference.

Providing your retirement income.

There are different ways to provide an income in retirement, including pension drawdown, annuities and withdrawals from savings and investments. We’ll compare the options, work out what income you need and plan where it should come from, taking tax and larger expenses into account.

We’ll make sure your plan is flexible and regularly reviewed, so when your State Pension arrives, your spending changes and any investments rise or fall your plan has room to adjust.

We give advice based on you.

Answering your questions.

  • How much can I afford to take each year?
  • How can I draw an income tax-efficiently?
  • Which is best, pension drawdown or annuity?
  • How long will my money last?
  • Can I afford a significant expense?
  • Do I need to plan for inheritance tax?

You’ve probably spent years building up your pensions and investments, and it can feel strange to start spending them. We can show you what you can afford to spend, so you can enjoy your retirement years the way you always imagined.

How we help.

We’ll plan how your pensions, savings and investments provide your retirement income, including how much to draw, where it should come from and when.

We’ll review that plan regularly as your spending, income and priorities change, and recommend adjustments when they’re needed.

If inheritance tax, your will or wider estate planning need attention, Insight’s own specialists provide that advice too, alongside your financial planning.

(A pension is a long-term investment, and you can’t usually access your money until age 55 (rising to 57 from April 2028, unless you have a protected pension age). The value of your pension investments can go down as well as up. This affects the value of your pension and the benefits available to you. Interest rates at the time you take your pension benefits can also affect your income.

The tax you pay on pension withdrawals depends on your individual circumstances and the tax rules in force at the time. These rules can change. We’ll help you understand your options at retirement and make informed decisions about how to take your pension benefits.)
