Q & A with Richard

When did you join Insight and how did you get into financial services?

I first got into financial services when I joined Norwich Union in 2001. I worked in various departments dealing with life and pension’s clients. I was always interested in a career in business, but I didn’t really know what that meant or what opportunities were available. I joined Insight in 2015.

Before that I was at college studying business and finance and had various jobs including working at Sainsbury’s and as a window fabricator.

What are your areas of expertise?

I deal with all aspects of financial planning. Recently I have seen a massive uplift in work regarding inheritance tax planning due to changes in government legislation.

What do you love helping clients with?

I love to help simplify clients’ finances, to take the worry away from them and let them enjoy their lives.

What insight or advice have you given that has really helped a client?

I have dealt with many clients over the years. Some of the advice I have given has helped saved families millions in tax.

However, the most satisfying client experiences are usually smaller things like helping people to buy their first house, pay off debt or just take away the confusion and burden that managing finances can sometimes present.

What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever helped a client fund?

I once helped a client relocate to live on a narrow boat on the Thames.

Tell us how you support your colleagues at Insight?

I’m passionate about supporting the next generation of advisers. As a mentor to new advisers joining the company, I enjoy sharing my experiences, helping them navigate the early stages of their career and watching them grow in confidence.

RICHARD'S GOLDEN NUGGET

Money is personal. The best financial advice starts with understanding the person and not just their finances. Behind every financial plan is a person, family and a life.

Complete confidence in his advice and judgement

Richard Beardsworth has been my and my family’s financial adviser for several years. We came time to him when our previous financial adviser retired and, initially, we were unsure about moving from a one man business to a more corporate based system. My misgivings were ill founded. I have complete confidence in his advice and judgement . He has provided us with financial growth and security and been responsive to the changes and challenges that we have faced. He’s always been ready to seek out the best possible options for us and involve us in decision making. I recommend him without reservation.

What’s your personal financial freedom dream?

To have the wealth and freedom to live life on my terms. For me, that means having the time to travel, make memories with my children and the people I care about the most. Ultimately, I want money to give me something more valuable than things. The freedom to choose how I spend my time.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever spent money on?

Probably the money spent on creating memories and experiences surrounded by the people in my life I care about the most.

What’s the one luxury you could never give up?

I’m a big believer that health is the biggest luxury of all. You could have all the money in the world, and all the nice things in life but without your health it means nothing.

What’s something colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

It’s a work in progress but I’m learning Spanish. I have visited Spain many times and love the way of life there, so thought I’d challenge myself to learn the language. I’ve mastered the important words – Vino and Por favor!

How do you help support your community?

I love attending and supporting various charity events throughout the year, including quite a few charity golf days.

Tip for my younger self

Wealth is a means to enjoy life - not the end goal.
