Q & A with Pam

How did you get into financial services?

I began my career in financial services with NatWest in Bristol, where I quickly progressed into a management role. Around 24 years ago, I took the opportunity with another Bank to move into a financial consultant position – an environment that was very male-dominated at the time, which made the challenge but all the more rewarding. I was proud to be one of the few women in the field and embraced the opportunity to build my expertise and presence.

Following the 2008 banking crisis, I transitioned into independent financial services, where I further developed my knowledge and qualifications, specialising in pensions. I spent nine years focusing on this area, supporting clients in navigating complex retirement planning decisions.

I joined Insight in August 2022 and I continue to bring my experience and client-focused approach to help individuals achieve their financial goals.

What are your areas of expertise?

While I consider myself an all-rounder, I have developed a strong knowledge of pensions and genuinely enjoy working in this area. I take pride in helping clients feel confident about their retirement planning and long-term financial future.

What advice have you given that helped a client and made you proud?

It’s hard to pick just one example that has made me proud, as I genuinely love helping people and putting them at ease about their finances. However, if I had to choose, one that stands out is helping a client realise that he could start to ease into retirement.

When we first met, he believed he would have to continue working for much longer and felt a real sense of trepidation about retirement, as he didn’t fully understand how it all worked. We took the time to look carefully at his current position, the assets he held, and how both his and his wife’s finances could work together to support them.

His wife, who was a teacher, was close to exhaustion with work and was able to retire not long after our meeting six months ago. My client retired at the end of June 2026. He was delighted to understand how to access his pensions and how their combined assets could provide the income they need. Knowing that I played a part in helping them both move into this next stage of life with confidence and excitement is something I’m incredibly proud of.

Complete faith in her professionalism, knowledge, and honesty

We started working with Pam several years ago, from the first meeting we had complete faith in her professionalism, knowledge, and honesty. Since then, Pam has managed our pensions, investments and financial planning, the advice is always clear and unbiased, and risk is always fully explained and to date we’ve always successful!. It feels more like dealing with a friend, nothing is too much trouble and no question too ridiculous. I genuinely believe if we hadn’t been introduced to Pam then we wouldn’t be in the financial position we are in now.

Nothing unusual, but everyday wants like campervans, cruises, bathrooms.

For me, personal financial freedom means being mortgage free and having the time and flexibility to enjoy life with my family. It’s about creating security and peace of mind, so I can focus on making memories with the people who matter most.

Holidays – experiencing different places, people and events.

One luxury I wouldn’t give up is time for myself – so I can enjoy my sports and holidays. Having that balance is really important to me and helps me stay positive and energised.

What’s something colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

I used to do ballroom dancing. It was a little while ago now, but it’s something I really enjoyed and would love to get back into one day.

Tip for my younger self

If I could give my younger self advice, I honestly wouldn’t change much. The determination and resilience I’ve shown throughout my career have shaped who I am today, and I’m proud of that. Every challenge has played a part in getting me to where I am now.
