Q & A with Matthew

How did you get into financial services?

I’ve worked in financial services since 2012, when I started my career with Aviva. I supported customers with their investments, pensions and protection policies, which gave me a great introduction to the industry and sparked my interest in helping people with their financial planning. I joined Insight in 2016, where I have continued to develop my experience and build my career as an independent financial adviser.

What are your areas of expertise?

Retirement planning, investments, protection and estate planning.

What do you love helping clients with?

I really enjoy helping clients plan for their retirement and, just as importantly, making sure their plans continue to work for them once they get there. It’s incredibly rewarding to help people feel confident about their financial future, so they can make the most of their retirement and enjoy the things that matter most to them.

Matthew's golden nugget

Don’t just plan for retirement - plan for the life you want to enjoy in retirement. It’s easy to focus on just saving for retirement, but I think the more important question is what do you want your money to allow you to do?

Very happy to recommend

We had our yearly financial review with Matt Watling today and would like to say how helpful he was, everything was explained very clearly and left us in a very positive frame of mind, so would like to say a very big thank you to him, and the service that your company provides. We would be very happy to recommend your services should any one ask.

More about Matthew

What advice have you given that helped a client and made you proud?

I find it’s rarely one piece of advice that makes the biggest difference. It’s the culmination of good financial planning over time that helps clients achieve their goals, and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing them reach those important milestones.

What’s your personal financial freedom dream?

For me and my family to be able to enjoy life as much as possible, be it travelling, music festivals or just chilling with our cats. And slightly more selfishly, to be able to have sports cars without worrying about the running costs!

Tell us about something you’ve done to raise money for charity.

I’ve ridden in multiple charity bike rides over the years to raise money for charities.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever spent money on?

My cats, they live a good life!

What’s the one luxury you could never give up?

Lego! There’s something really satisfying about it, but it’s gradually filling up my home office.

Tip for my younger self

Other than buying a lot more Bitcoin in 2018-2020! It would simply be to start planning and investing earlier, even if you can only afford a little.
