Q & A with Gular

How did you get into financial services?

My route into financial services wasn’t exactly conventional. I originally studied Language and Literature for my Bachelor’s degree, but I always felt I was more naturally drawn to finance, numbers and facts. I suppose the factual side of my personality eventually won!

Before moving to the UK, I worked as a Finance Analyst in Baku, Azerbaijan for ITE Group PLC, a company with its head office in London. That experience gave me my first real grounding in finance and encouraged me to take the next step.

After moving to Norwich, I completed an MSc in International Accounting and Financial Management at UEA’s Norwich Business School. While studying, I applied for a job at Insight — and, as they say, the rest is history. I joined Insight in June 2019.

What are your areas of expertise?

Financial planning, taxation, retirement planning, protection, savings and investments, and estate planning.

But if I had to describe what I really do in one sentence, it would be this: I help people make the most of their money so they can live the life they actually want.

What do you love helping clients with?

What I really enjoy is helping people turn something that can feel complicated or overwhelming into a clear, practical plan.

Sometimes all it takes is understanding where you are now, deciding where you want to be, and taking that first step.

What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever helped a client fund?

Helping a client buy a family property abroad because of the sentimental value it held for them. It was a good reminder that financial planning isn’t always about maximising numbers on a spreadsheet. Sometimes money is about memories, family and the things that matter to you personally.

Gular's golden nugget

Financial Advisers are there to help. We do not sell products; we help people plan for the life they want to lead. We don’t sell dreams. We help people make them.

Her advice is always clear, practical, and easy to understand!

I have had a very positive experience with my Financial Adviser [Gular]. She is honest, trustworthy, and genuinely take the time to understand my financial goals and circumstances. Her advice is always clear, practical, and easy to understand, and I particularly appreciate her guidance on tax-saving measures and making the most of my finances. I feel confident knowing that I’m receiving professional advice that is focused on my best interests rather than simply selling products. I would happily recommend her services to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, reliable, and trustworthy Financial Adviser.

More about Gular

What advice have you given that helped a client and made you proud?

One recent example was meeting a mother and daughter who were dealing with a very difficult period following the death of their husband and father. They were understandably worried about Inheritance Tax and what would happen with the inherited assets.

The planning itself was important, but what stayed with me was the message I received afterwards. She told me that our conversation had helped put her mind at ease during an incredibly difficult time. For me, that is a big part of what good financial advice should do. It isn’t just about the numbers. Giving someone clarity and peace of mind is just as valuable.

What’s your personal financial freedom dream?

I have always been independent, and freedom — both mentally and financially is key for me. I cannot be caged!

What’s the best thing you’ve ever spent money on?

My family and my children. I’m naturally someone who loves giving, and seeing the people I love happy is something money can never really put a price on.

What’s the one luxury you could never give up?

Peace of mind, personal space and financial freedom.

I’m not sure I could choose just one!

What’s something colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

I love dancing – I’m just much better at watching it than actually doing it! I still believe that one day I will perfect Dirty Dancing. Hope dies last!

Tip for my younger self

Listen to your inner voice sooner. And when you know you want to take that little step, take it. Don't spend years waiting for the “perfect” moment. Sometimes the biggest changes start with one small decision.
