Q & A with Graham
How did you get into financial services?
Previously I worked in Retail Electronics (TVs, computers, etc) before joining the financial services sector. I joined Insight in July 2025.
What are your areas of expertise?
Pensions (all types, including Defined Benefit), Protection (personal & business), Investments and Estate Planning.
What do you love helping clients with?
Meeting their goals, especially when you can make this happen quicker than expected. For example there’s nothing better than telling someone they can retire earlier than planned.
What advice have you given that helped a client and made you proud?
I recently helped a client by looking through the estate paperwork for her late mother and was able to spot that Inheritance Tax had been overpaid by £40-50K. After bringing this up with the solicitor firm and HMRC, the client is now expecting this to be refunded, which was a great outcome and a great feeling.
That by making various small changes, that we can make huge differences to a client's long-term plans and outcomes.
I'll be in good shape come retirement!
I liked to think I was on top of my personal wealth numbers, but in reality I was looking at the wrong things. This is where this chap came in. He’s my pension adviser and honestly has managed to really help me work out where I actually am. Not just the top line figure of what I’ve put away. Like:
1. How much do I actually need?
2. When do I need it?
3. Where should I be putting it now to make it better for when I do retire?
More about Graham
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever helped a client fund?
Regular murder mystery trips.
What’s your personal financial freedom dream?
To take the financial pressure off my wife so she no longer needs to work. Additionally, I would like to retire at the latest age 60, so we are able to spend a quality retirement together.
What’s the best thing you’ve ever spent money on?
Private medical care for my wife.
Tell us about something you’ve done to help your community / raise money for charity?
My wife suffers with multiple health conditions, one of which is Endometriosis. Due to my experience and knowing that this is a very underfunded area, I spent some time raising money & awareness in my community. This led to a donation to Endometriosis UK to provide assistance for other women like my wife.
What’s the one luxury you could never give up?
Games (both console & board games). I’m a huge nerd and love the distraction to life these bring.
What’s something colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?
I have 4 black belts in Kung Fu! I have been studying this since I was 18 and it’s a big passion of mine.
To save even more into pensions, as it makes a huge difference to your financial future.
