Q & A with Georgianna
How did you get into financial services?
Whilst studying at university I worked at a bar and a gentleman I’d built a rapport with came up to me and asked how all my final submissions were going and what my next steps were. I knew I didn’t want to study further but that I wanted to work with people and make an impact. He told me he’d just sold his IFA business to a larger firm, had been a financial adviser all his life and thought I’d make a great IFA. He gave me one of the director’s numbers and I came in for a meeting and was offered a job. I joined Insight in 2022.
What are your areas of expertise?
Working with Ltd company owners – reducing corporation tax, protecting the business, investing company cash and then looking at not just the business but personal lives of the directors too, landlords – tax positions – income/Capital Gains and Inheritance tax, diversifying away from property investments and legacy planning.
What do you love helping clients with?
I love helping clients get into a better position. There’s nothing better than saving somebody tax because who likes paying tax – whether that’s income, CGT or IHT. Talking to clients who haven’t ever had a plan before and getting them on track and building that plan is also really rewarding.
The power of compounding. The hardest part isn’t understanding it, it’s being patient enough to let it work. Everything is relative and personal to you. The plan is built around where you are in life right now and where you want to be. It’s flexible, it changes and moves with you as your life inevitably changes. It’s not a one size fits all approach and what your mate down the pub has told you they are doing, doesn’t automatically mean that’s what you should be doing too.

More about Georgianna
What insights or advice have you given that helped a client and made you proud?
Working alongside our estate planning firm to build a plan that mitigated IHT for my client. By running my plan parallel to the estate planners, we were able to ensure that we significantly reduced the IHT bill due on death, while also ensuring that the wealth my client had spent their lives building, passed safely to their children – and would remain in their bloodline.
What’s your personal financial freedom dream?
Time. Choice. Flexibility.
What’s the best thing you’ve ever spent money on?
My Sofa… it’s my prized possession.
What’s the one luxury you could never give up?
Champagne.
Your investments eat first. Pay into your future self as a non-negotiable expense at payday. The rest is for your today. Spend money on the things you genuinely enjoy and be disciplined with the things you don’t care about. Being ‘good’ with money isn’t about saying no to everything, it’s about knowing what’s worth saying yes to.
