Q & A with Fliss

How did you get into financial services?

After a career change in 2016, I started work as a paraplanner for a financial services firm, whilst simultaneously taking my financial advisory exams and qualifying in 2019, at which point I set up Seymour Financial which became part of Insight in 2023. I also became a certified Financial Coach in 2023.

What are your areas of expertise?

As both an independent financial adviser and a Financial Coach, I specialise in working with family businesses and women new to wealth; whether that be through divorce, becoming widowed or a female entrepreneur.

What do you love helping clients with?

I love helping those new to wealth build confidence around their finances and supporting fellow business owners. As a female led practice with a young family, I fully understand the struggle of juggling business with family and I’m privileged to be my clients’ go-to, to support them on their journey.

What advice have you given that helped a client and made you proud?

My proudest moment as an adviser is being able to tell clients they’re on track for a comfortable retirement, or in many cases, telling them that they can afford to retire early.

Fliss' golden nugget

When it comes to investing, starting small is better than not starting at all. Don’t think that you always have to start with a lump sum.

Focused on getting you to your end goal

I’m personally a client of Fliss’, and I recommend her to all of my clients for a few reasons: Fliss is a business owner, she’s relatable, and she has the same challenges and frustrations as me and my clients. She’s an action taker; if something needs to be done, it gets done. She is focused on getting you to your end goal and that’s what I want for myself and all my clients.

More about Fliss

What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever helped a client fund?

Following an inheritance, I was able to help my client completely change her career and retrain in an area she’s now passionate about. Through a combination of savings and investments, she was able to embark on a new career as a makeup special FX artist, with her first paid role straight out of training being for a now Oscar-nominated film.

What’s your personal financial freedom dream?

To own a ski chalet in the French Alps.

Tell us about something you’ve done for raise money for charity?

As part of three consecutive years on Testimonial committees for professional rugby players, I helped raise over £100,000 for various charities, including assisting with brokering and managing the first International Testimonial rugby game (and a World Cup warm-up game) with 8,000 people attending.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever spent money on?

Sometimes an unpopular theory, but I believe in fixing the roof when the sun is shining, so it would have to be paying my mortgage off before my 40th birthday.

What’s the one luxury you could never give up?

Life’s too short for cheap wine.

What’s something colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m happiest when I’m in my garden growing Dahlias, being followed by my 6 chickens.

Tip for my younger self

It’s just as important to invest in what you believe in and what’s aligned with your values as much as it is about long-term performance.
